Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What types of odors can be eliminated?

A. MA-T® has been proven to be effective in treating body odor, sweat, human waste, pet odor, smell of cooked meat and fish, food waste, and other indoor odors. It is also effective in breaking down and deodorizing formaldehyde products associated with “sick building syndrome” symptoms. MA-T® has been proven effective at eliminating odors from ammonia, acetic acid, hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, trimethylamine, isovaleric acid, and acetaldehyde.

Q. Will this product eliminate odors in wet substances or those that contain moisture?

A. Diluting the product will not alter its functionality, but its performance is determined based on the amount used for a given surface area, so its performance will depend on how much is applied. Note that its effects will decrease where water or the odor-causing substance is flowing over a surface. If the surface is wet, it is recommended to first wipe it before applying the product. The odor-eating agent can permeate into wet areas, so spraying the product onto a wet surface will achieve the same effect as if the product were dry.

Q. Can the product be used on wet laundry?

A. Yes. The odor-eating agent can permeate into wet areas, so spraying it on damp clothes will have the same effect as spraying it on dry clothes.

Q. How long will products remain odor free?

A. Once the odor-causing substance has been removed, it will not produce any more odor. While the odor-eating agent remains in the product or on its surface, further odor-causing substances will not produce odors. Please note, however, MA-T® does not offer a uniform and fixed time frame for its odor-eating functionality as it will differ depending on the odor-causing substance, quantity, degree of permeation, and other factors.

Q. Can this product eliminate cigarette smoke odors?

A. The product has been confirmed to break down the primary compounds that cause cigarette smoke odors and is very effective, but there are thought to be between 3,000~4,000 substances that, in combination, contribute to cigarette smoke odors, and these have contrasting acidic and alkaline properties. These include substances with no polarity, like formaldehydes, hydrocarbon, and alcohols, so we cannot guarantee that the oxidizing properties of the product will suffice in breaking down those substances.

Q. Can this product eliminate perfume and cologne smells?

A. Perfumes and colognes are generally blended from a few to several dozen essential oils and are designed to permeate and last even in small quantity. For this reason, it is difficult to eliminate the smell of every type of perfume or cologne in a short time. However, the odor-eating properties strengthen over time, so we suggest spraying more frequently in order to achieve better results.

Q. Are there any precautions for deodorizing an item with strong smell?

A. First remove any dirt or stains before application. Spraying the product onto heavily-stained items can cause ring stains to form or the underlying odor-causing substance to later emerge from the stain, inhibiting the intended performance of the product. For vomit and other such substances, the substance should be removed and thrown away and the area cleaned before spraying it with the product. Spraying directly on the substance without removing it can cause the substance to disperse.

Q. I understand that the product is advertised as breaking down formaldehydes and eliminating their odors.

A. Yes, MA-T®’s oxidizing powers are highly effective at breaking down formaldehydes and removing their odors.

Q. How does the product work?

A. It alters proteins, oxidizes lipids such as cell membranes, and achieves other effects depending on what it is applied to. This effect is achieved through the oxidizing power of oxygen.
